Visa Applications From Iran
Friday, July 28, 2006
Immigration New Zealand ands Bangkok Branch (INZ Bangkok) will commence processing all applications for Pakistani nationals who are living in Pakistan, and Iranian nationals who are living in Iran, from 1 August 2006.
INZ Singapore will continue to process all applications received on or before 31 July 2006.
We are making this change in an effort to provide better service to our customers in Pakistan and Iran. Direct flights from Singapore to New Zealand on Air New Zealand will cease later this year and therefore Singapore may not be the normal for travel to New Zealand from Pakistan and Iran. Bangkok office is also the regional hub office for applications from the Middle East and therefore is well placed to take this work from Singapore.
Fees
Application fees can be paid in Thai baht or US dollars. Fees can be accepted in the form of bank drafts or bank cheques or credit card payments (visa or master card). Bank cheques need to be made payable to New Zealand Immigration Service. Fees paid by draft in US dollars will attract an additional $10 surcharge for bank fees.
Please note that the application fee is a processing fee and is non-refundable regardless of the outcome of your visa application.
No cash fees can be accepted in Bangkok. Application fees for the most common application types are listed below. However, as these change from time to time we recommend that you check the most current fees on the checklist for each category or on our website.

Lodging an application
Personal presence at the Immigration New Zealand office in Bangkok is not required to submit your application. If an interview is required, you will be informed well in advance and this will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time.
Please note that we do not require the passport in original at the time of submitting the application. Visa applications accompanied with attested copies of the all pages of the passport are acceptable. Please note that if you live in a country where it is illegal to send the passport offshore you should provide a copy rather than the original document.
Application forms
Links to application forms for all categories are available on our website. The most common are also listed below for your convenience:
· Application to Work in New Zealand (pdf)
· Application to Study in New Zealand (pdf)
· Application to Visit New Zealand (pdf)
Collecting your visa
Please note that in some countries, including Pakistan and Iran, there are restrictions on sending documents by courier. Please ensure that you have checked your local laws before deciding to send your passport by courier. It is our understanding that it is illegal to send a Pakistani passport within or out of the country by courier.
If you wish to have your visa endorsed in your passport in person, we will work with you to make arrangements for your visa to be endorsed in your passport in Bangkok or another office if that is more convenient.
You may travel to Bangkok for the endorsement of your visa in your passport after obtaining confirmation from this office that your application has been approved. If you choose this option, you will only be required to submit certified true copies of your passport together with your application. Please allow one working day to be in Bangkok for the endorsement of your visa. To facilitate your travel to Bangkok we will issue you with a letter which confirms your visa application has been approved. You will need to present this to support your application for a Thai visa.
Return of other documents.
If you wish the documents submitted with your application to be returned by courier rather than collecting them a courier fee will be payable. The charges are:
· Pakistan: 850 Thai Baht or US$20
· Iran: 1100 Thai Baht or US$25

Procedures
If you are unable to provide a police certificate you must provide a separate statutory declaration in both English and your own language, detailing your attempts to obtain a police certificate and stating whether you and any accompanying family members have been found guilty or convicted of, or charged with offences against the law in that country, or have not been charged with any offences against the law of that country. This statutory declaration should also be corroborated by other information attesting to your character.
If police certificates become a year old from date of issue before a decision is made on an application, visa and immigration officers may request further police certificates. Further police certificates may also be requested within the 12 month period if there is good reason to do so.
The procedures for obtaining a police certificate for some countries state that the police authorities will only send the certificate direct to Immigration New Zealand. It is recommended that in such cases applicants should request their police certificate three months prior to lodging their application for a residence visa or permit. It is also recommended that such applicants provide Immigration New Zealand with a copy of the receipt for the requested police certificate (if this is available) to assist Immigration New Zealand in tracking their certificate.
