New Zealand is nestled in the South Pacific Ocean 1,600 kms (1,000 miles) from Australia, our closest neighbour and friend. |

There are just over four million New Zealanders, and every single one is either an immigrant or descended from one. |

By most other standards, New Zealand is a very young country, with European settlement on a large scale only occurring over the last 150 years. |

English is the main written and spoken language in New Zealand – with a number of different accents!! Maori is also an officially recognised language and is spoken fluently by over 4% of the population. |

Being in the Southern Hemisphere, our seasons are completely opposite to countries north of the equator. Winter is June through August and our Summer is between December and March. |

New Zealand is a modern parliamentary democracy based on the Westminster cabinet system. New Zealand’s Parliament is currently made up of 120 Members representing eight parties. |

With majestic mountain ranges, sweeping plains, fjords, imposing native forests, crystal clear inland lakes, miles of golden sand beaches and numerous bays dotted around one of the longest coastlines in the world. |

New Zealand enjoys a well deserved reputation as a liberal and tolerant society. We do have enormous freedoms, however there are certain laws that are strictly enforced for citizens’ safety and health. |

The long and the short of it |
There’s a long list of things that New Zealand has plenty of – space, recreational pursuits, culture, entertainment, successful businesses and an exceptional quality of life. But there are also things we’re extremely short of – most importantly: experienced, qualified and skilled New Zealanders.
Many industries within New Zealand say that one of the most significant factors holding them back from achieving growth is the lack of qualified staff.
And that’s where you come in!

Within a relatively short time, New Zealand has developed a sophisticated, unrestrictive business environment that competes aggressively in world markets. It joins our predominantly agriculture-based economy which continues to deliver the bulk of our export earnings. |

Work environment and finding a job One of the things you’ll immediately be struck with is the flexible way we carry out our jobs. We don’t stand on ceremony, very rarely do we refer to people by their title, we dress a whole lot more informally than you’re probably used to and we regularly mix socially with our work colleagues. |

The exciting thing about small businesses in New Zealand is that they don’t act as if they’re small, and they regularly introduce big ideas. |
